We will always experience drag in some form or other this can be Aero or Mechanical, here at Finity Works we have a system that reduces mechanical drag from the internal pawl and ratchet system of our rear hub by nearly 100%!
Reduced drag is achieved by reinventing the pawl mechanism function! we have designed a system that gives maximum efficiency when in freewheel surpassing all other competitors!
As a further drag reduction to high quality steel bearings we have the option of using the very best Silicon Nitride Hybrid Ceramic bearings also known as Si3N4
Standard pawl and ratchet system

With a conventional ratchet system the clicks can be loud depending on the strength of spring used, this can resonate significantly throughout the wheel especially if you have a deep section rim, in some instances it can resonate into the frame itself. with our Patent Pending system the clicking is almost eradicated by taking away the spring aspect of the engagement.
Internal Friction
Also With these systems the pawl is constantly pressed up against the ratchet ring via a spring, when grease is added the grease tends to be squished out from between these two parts as the hub turns in freewheel, this will happen regardless! ultimately causing bare metal to rub against each other, this actually starts to happen from the first time you go out on your new wheels and there is no way for the grease to work its way back and lubricate these two surfaces. With our hub design the system does not rely on the grease to provide lubrication to these two surfaces as they have almost no friction, we may use specific Teflon lubrication or a very light grease within the hub mechanism but only for the retention of corrosion.
As we are eliminating friction between these two surfaces you also eliminate wear and tear on those internal parts so our hubs need less servicing in this area and subsequently have a higher longevity.
Of course the pinnacle of these hubs is their outstanding efficiency, they outperform any rear hub on the market today!
Just to put into prospective we tested our prototype on a 19mm wide 24 mm deep rim equipped with high grade ceramic bearings and standard round spokes rolled down from 30 km/hr to a complete stop in 5 minutes 12 seconds. This is far superior to the competition.
This of course varies with the type of rim used as various size rims have different weights, so for example a deep section carbon or carbon/alloy rim say 80mm will have a heavier weight compared to a 24 mm alloy rim so will have more rotational momentum when it is spun at 30 km/hr this will effect the time of spin and will increase this timed result, so for this reason we have used the lightest rim possible so the rotational momentum is at a minimum for real world true testing results.​​
TEST RESULTS
Two consecutive runs recorded using Garmin 1000 spun at 30km/hr using standard high grade ceramic bearings rolled down to a complete stop in 5:12 seconds and the second run was 5:11 seconds
Another two runs were performed and both were in the 5:11 region so the test was very consistant.
Development!
At the moment the hub is in its final development stages although we do have fully working prototypes unfortunately the product is not for sale to the general public as of yet, in the development/manufacturing stage we want to give you the consumer the best possible product without compromising quality and safety! so for our piece of mind and your confidence! we need time for development and production please bare with us during this critical period. ​​
